In August we warned that Congress was planning to use radical legislation to rescind public land management plans—a dangerous and unprecedented move that would cause chaos. Unfortunately, these resolutions have cleared the House and are headed to the Senate for final passage.
These destructive resolutions will cast aside years of expert work and countless volumes of input from local communities, Tribes and other stakeholders. They cannot be allowed to pass!
Resource Management Plans are drafted by experts at the Department of the Interior over the course of years—with broad input from the public—to guide responsible and sustainable use of public lands. These are the documents that guide conservation of beloved recreation areas, critical wildlife habitat, clean water sources and more.
Lawmakers, who apparently believe they know better than both professionals and local communities, are using a complex and radical legislative tool—the Congressional Review Act—to unilaterally overturn these plans and prevent them from being reissued. If they are successful, it will set a dangerous precedent and sow destruction for years to come.
Thank you for your advocacy and support.
Sincerely,
