[Impact Report] What we’re fighting for in 2026 πŸ‘‰

A look at where we're going, together >>

Momoko, as the Trump administration and its allies in Congress accelerate plans to privatize, sell-off or give away America's public lands, The Wilderness Society has been preparing to navigate what will likely be one of the most consequential years in conservation history.

2026 will demand courage, bold action and persistence. The stakes are enormous—but the path forward is clear, guided by science, community leadership, Indigenous knowledge and the power of conservationists like you, who are committed to protecting the wild places we all love.

Protecting public lands is ongoing, year-round work—and here's where we're focusing our efforts in 2026. Your support powers this work every day.

Protecting America's Natural Treasure.

We're working in partnership with supporters like you to block efforts to sell off public lands, defend national monuments from rollbacks and stop attempts to open irreplaceable landscapes—from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to the headwaters of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota—to drilling, mining and industrial exploitation.

Defending Our Bedrock Environmental Protections.

The administration is attempting to strip away essential public lands protections like the Roadless Rule, the National Environmental Policy Act and the Public Lands Rule to make it easier to drill, mine and log. We're fighting back in the courtroom, the halls of Congress and alongside Tribes and local communities to protect the laws that keep the country's vital lands and waters intact.

Ensuring Our Freedom To Explore Public Lands.

Public lands belong to everyone—and they provide unparalleled opportunities for hiking, fishing, camping and exploring. Efforts to sell off, close or privatize these lands take away that freedom. We're working with communities to stop sell-offs, expand outdoor equity programs for underserved youth and families and secure funding so everyone can access and enjoy nature.

Explore the lands and waters we're protecting together—from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to Bears Ears National Monument in Utah—and get to know the wild places at the heart of our work.
