We need your help right now. Last week, the House passed a resolution that would strip vital protections from the headwaters of the Boundary Waters, one of the nation's largest and most visited wilderness areas. If this legislation clears the Senate, it will open the door for destructive mining to irreparably devastate this place.
The Boundary Waters is home to over one million acres of interconnected lands and waters. In addition to providing critical wildlife habitat, this wilderness area safeguards clean water and provides important subsistence resources like wild rice to Indigenous Anishinaabe people who retain hunting and gathering rights there. This special place offers the freedom to paddle, explore and connect with nature in Minnesota's boreal forest ecosystem.
Friends of this incredible place advocated for generations to protect it from mining corporations trying to make an easy buck. If hard-won protections are revoked for the area's headwaters, the Boundary Waters will be irreversibly ravaged—devasting wildlife, poisoning a clean water supply and preventing the public from exploring its incredible splendor.
Thank you for your advocacy and support.
Sincerely,
