The "Big, Beautiful Bill" isn't beautiful at all

The One Big, Beautiful Bill Act officially cleared Congress in early July—and it's as dangerous as we feared.

While widespread public outrage helped stop an outrageous proposal to sell off millions of acres of public lands, the final bill still reads like a giveaway to polluters. It opens the door for oil, gas and mining corporations to lease more than 200 million acres of our shared public lands, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, at bargain prices and without proper environmental review or public input.

But the fight isn't over. Despite this setback we will continue to fight for public lands and we'll need you in the months ahead to help stop the worst of what this bill allows.

Even without the public lands sell-off provision, the "big, beautiful bill" is one of the biggest public lands giveaways to the fossil fuel industry in history. The Wilderness Society, with Rocky Mountain Wild, worked together to illustrate this reckless giveaway. Check our map to see all the Bureau of Land Management lands across the Western United States that are open to oil and gas leasing. Read more.
