While the Trump administration continues to wreak havoc on public lands with unyielding layoffs and rule shredding, Congress is now poised to enable even deeper damage, putting corporate greed over community wellbeing.
The SPEED Act would hollow out one of our most important protective laws and let destructive projects run full steam through public lands. It threatens the conservation values that keep our air and water clean, limits the public's freedom to weigh in on decisions that shape our shared lands and puts future generations at risk.
For over fifty years, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) has protected transparency and smart decision-making by ensuring that major projects—like pipelines and mines—consider environmental impacts before breaking ground and are informed by public input. It is one of the only federal laws that ensures our air, land and water are protected from harm.
The SPEED Act is a corporate polluter handout that will run NEPA through the shredder. Under the guise of simple "reform" this bill will dramatically reduce public input, restrict scientific review and limit court oversight of the process. It is a wolf in sheep's clothing that will sideline our communities, destroy our conservation safeguards and sell-out future generations—it cannot be allowed to pass!
Thank you for your advocacy and support.
Sincerely,
