In what has quickly become a new normal, Congress is voting on yet another destructive bill that would shred existing public land protections: this time prioritizing toxic mining over all other uses—including renewable energy development, recreation access and conservation.
The Mining Regulatory Clarity Act is another piece of egregious legislation that will rip public lands away from all of us and hand them to corporate benefactors. It cannot pass!
Masquerading as "reform," the Mining Regulatory Clarity Act is a cynical giveaway that will allow mining companies to claim indefinite numbers of millsites, where they could dump toxic mining waste or build roads, pipelines, powerlines, or other infrastructure across public lands. It would erode long-standing safeguards that protect clean water and wildlife habitat.
The country's mining laws are already permissive; this bill only serves the Trump administration's destructive agenda by further erasing accountability for corporate polluters. The House has to take a stand and reject this legislation!
Thank you for your advocacy and support.
Sincerely,
