The 500-pound pumpkin — stuffed with lettuce, apples and sweet potatoes — was perfect squishing size for the 18-year-old elephant, who outweighed it by nearly 10,000 pounds.
After the main event, care staff presented Samudra’s little sister, 20-month-old Tula-Tu, with a smaller pumpkin to play with.

Elephants Deli is supporting our herd by donating $1 from each 4-pack of Pink Party Elephant Shortbread cookies sold between Oct. 1 – Dec. 31. It’s a tasty way to give back to the Oregon Zoo Foundation while treating yourself (or someone else)!

It’s bats!
You can help these forest heroes.
We are fortunate to live in a very batty part of the country. At least 15 species of bats call Oregon and Washington home, and thankfully for us, they all eat insects (including mosquitoes and bugs that damage trees). Bats help keep our environment healthy.
You can help bats by choosing non-toxic garden pest control. Garden products like pesticides and fungicides can harm wildlife and pollinators — not just garden pests — and pollute the environment.
