Momoko, public lands tell America's story.
They are the places where we camp, hike and make lifelong memories. They are places where wildlife still have room to roam, clean water flows and every one of us has the freedom to explore something bigger than ourselves.
But this administration doesn't see the deep value and meaning that public lands bring to our lives. They only see dollar signs. And now they're moving faster than ever to turn their dangerous agenda—to privatize these special places so corporations can destroy them for profit—into reality.
The Wilderness Society is on the front lines of the fight to show this administration that our shared public lands are NOT FOR SALE—but as it ramps up its attacks, we must ramp up our response. We need 200 supporters like you to join us with a tax-deductible gift to defend public lands before our deadline on Thursday, October 22. Can you be one of them?
Every dollar you contribute will help power our work in court, in the halls of Congress and in communities around the country to protect irreplaceable landscapes like:
- The Tongass National Forest in Alaska. We're fighting the administration's plans to gut the Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which protects some 45 million acres of national forests from roadbuilding and logging—including the towering, ancient trees of the Tongass, one of the world's last remaining temperate rainforests. Help power our fight with a gift today >>
- Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments in Utah. Our legal team is fighting in court to stop the administration from illegally shrinking these monuments' boundaries by 90 percent, which would put important cultural places and crucial wildlife habitat at grave risk. Your support can help strengthen our work in court >>
- Chaco Canyon in New Mexico In a blatant attack on Indigenous stewardship, the administration is moving to open up public lands in the Greater Chaco Region to oil and gas drilling, imperiling a living cultural landscape of deep significance to the Pueblos, the DinΓ© People and other Tribal Nations in the Southwest. Together we can defend these lands before it's too late >>
- The Roan Plateau in Colorado. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is offering up more than 4,600 acres of this biologically rich landscape for oil and gas leasing in an upcoming December sale, threatening a vast ecosystem of forests, sagebrush, meadows and streams that are home to elk, mule deer, native trout and other wildlife. Pitch in to help protect essential wildlife habitats from destruction >>
- Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve in Alaska. The administration is barreling ahead with approvals for the Ambler Road project, which would threaten Alaska Native communities and vulnerable wildlife by carving a road through this unspoiled habitat so that a massive, open-pit mine can be built in the wilds of Interior Alaska. We're fighting to stop it, but we can't do it without you >>
Momoko, our nation's story is still being written. It's a story of thousands of people, all across the country, rising up to defend the places they cherish—for our families, our communities, future generations and the freedom of wilderness. Thank you for being a part of this story, and for all you do to protect America's public lands.
With gratitude,
