[Impact Report] A new vision for public lands

We’re rethinking how we care for public lands
Introducing Ground Shift: TWS Kickstarts New Thinking For America's Lands and Waters.

Dear Momoko,

Every day, our work illuminates the mounting pressures America's public lands are facing—now they've reached a breaking point. The impacts of climate change and nature loss are accelerating faster than ever before. Meanwhile, our government has unleashed a barrage of attacks on the landscapes, people and policies that keep the natural world healthy, protected and accessible.

But even as we fight daily to confront these troubling realities, The Wilderness Society is looking ahead to craft solutions that are bold enough to meet the needs of our time.

That's why I'm excited to introduce Ground Shift: a new cross-partisan initiative we launched to surface creative, durable and transformative ideas to shape the next century of public land and water stewardship in the United States. You can check out the project's website here, and sign up for updates to stay in the loop.

EXPLORE GROUND SHIFT

This is a moment when we need more, not less, from our public lands. That includes more outdoor access and protected spaces, more clean air and water, more abundant wildlife, more healthy forests, and more Americans engaging in shaping the future of our shared places.

Even before the attacks of the past year, our public lands policies and laws were struggling to address the challenges of our time—nature loss, climate change and the increasing separation between people and nature—and the land management agencies are no longer equipped to meet their basic functions.

We launched Ground Shift to help chart a vision for the future. Ground Shift provides a space for big new ideas to be developed and debated, where we as a nation can collectively find the courage and creativity to build what comes next so public lands and waters continue to sustain communities, wildlife and outdoor traditions for generations to come.

This kind of forward-looking work is only possible through the support of people like you. The commitment of this community ensures we can both defend public lands from the attacks they face today, and imagine and build a brighter future for tomorrow.

Momoko, if you're interested in being part of this initiative, I hope you'll sign up for email updates and opportunities to get involved in Ground Shift >>

Thank you for being part of this work, Momoko.
