In yet another handout to fossil fuel oligarchs, the Interior Department has announced it will substantially roll back key safeguards and slash the fees oil corporations must pay to drill. This move would make it even cheaper and easier to drill on public lands while impacted communities are left voiceless and penniless.
At stake is the Bureau of Land Management Oil and Gas Rule, which made companies pay a fairer share to drill public lands, forced them to cover the costs of clean-up and steered development to lands with fewer environmental conflicts.
If the Interior’s proposed changes are finalized, it will let fossil fuel corporations spoil public lands with no guardrails or public input—robbing current and future generations of the freedom to enjoy these incredible places as they are today. Meanwhile, executives will pad their pockets and the people directly impacted by the fallout from drilling will be left footing the bill for clean-up.
Thank you for your advocacy and support.
Sincerely,
