This is urgent: the Senate is preparing a final vote to confirm Steve Pearce as director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). If he is confirmed, the nation's largest public lands management agency will be run by a hardline politician whose record supports the outright sale and privatization of public lands.
Pearce, a former Congressman, has built his career on controversial views. He has criticized Teddy Roosevelt's "big ideas" of establishing national forests and parks, calling to "reverse [the] trend" of public lands ownership. He has opposed common sense protections for special places, often against the opinion of his own constituents. If that weren't bad enough, he has consistently supported deregulation that would allow greedy oil giants to trample the public.
The public has shown time and again that the majority of people want to protect public lands. Just this year, Colorado College polling found that 84% of Western voters across party lines believe the rollbacks of public lands protections are a serious issue. Pearce's nomination flies directly in the face of public opinion—we must stand-up and tell our senators he is a non-starter!
Thank you for your advocacy and support.
Sincerely,
